Why do I need to service my car?

One of the risks of not carrying out regular servicing on your car is the potential for oil sludge to build up in your engine. Oil sludge is like a gel that sticks to your engine parts and blocks oil galleries preventing the normal flow of oil throughout the engine. Caused by a breakdown of over-stressed oil in an engine, it has become extremely common in vehicles manufactured from 1997 onwards. The picture below is from an Audi with a poor service history, a regular service would have saved this engine and a lot of money for the owner.

A regular service by a qualified technician using a hoist (a hoist is the only way to properly inspect under a vehicle) will also ensure the safety and reliabilty of your vehicle by picking up on minor problems before they become major, costly problems. We have found over the years that a lot of breakdowns were caused by small problems that were not picked up early, it is false economy to extend the service your vehicle.
